Youth Organic Training Program a

Youth Organic Training Program a

Background

The Hong Kong Organic Resource Centre (HKORC) has long been dedicated to promoting local organic agriculture and certification, as well as fostering a green organic culture across the city. Over the years, HKORC has actively driven local organic farming and sustainable living. Since 2008, it has organized organic farming training programs in the academic sector, guiding students to deepen their understanding of the close links between organic farming and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria, and encouraging them to integrate sustainability into daily life. To date, the program has engaged over 1,000 secondary schools and tertiary institutions, training more than 14,000 “Organic Ambassadors” who have become a crucial force in advancing local sustainable development.

From organic farming to daily living, adopting green practices protects ecosystems and serves as a low-carbon lifestyle choice for the new generation:

Centering around this year’s theme, “Organic Life, LEVEL UP with Me!”, the program takes local organic agriculture as its starting point. It aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and actively supports the HKSAR Government’s Climate Action Plan 2050 and the Blueprint for the Sustainable Development of Agriculture and Fisheries. The initiative aims to guide youth in integrating sustainability into their everyday routines, transforming “organic living” into an actionable, attitude-driven modern green lifestyle. By cultivating young leaders equipped with low-carbon awareness and community mobilization skills, the program turns sustainable living into a new trend for the younger generation. This injects fresh youth energy into local organic agriculture, gradually putting green choices into practice and unlocking a sustainable future for Hong Kong.

Aim

  • This program aims to guide students in unlocking green skills and a sustainable mindset through three core learning dimensions: cognition, experience, and practice. From gaining a deep understanding of local organic agriculture to practicing a personal low-carbon lifestyle, the initiative cultivates a new generation of green advocates equipped with environmental awareness, practical skills, and community mobilization power.
  • Deeper Understanding: Deepen knowledge of local organic agriculture and food security issues, recognizing the crucial role of “organic living” in low-carbon reduction and ecological conservation.
  • Practical Skills & Experience: Master core organic farming skills—such as soil management, resource recycling, and natural pest control—while experiencing the hard work of farming firsthand to foster an appreciation for food.
  • Low-Carbon Mindset: Build a low-carbon mindset and actively apply green, low-carbon choices in school, at home, and across daily routines.
  • Leadership & Advocacy: Develop green advocacy and leadership abilities to promote “sustainable living” across campuses, communities, and digital platforms, demonstrating the green impact of the new generation.
